May 08, 2013
NuoMi is a female fashion label with a difference. Founded in 2006, the Shanghai based design collective provides sustainable livelihoods for Chinese women and children in the form of employment, microfinancing and training.
The concept was founded by Bonita Lim, an amazing, trailblazing woman.
Tailored suits and silk evening dresses are hand-sewn by local families, using natural fibres including soy, bamboo and cotton.
NuoMi currently aims to provide 1000 underprivileged breadwinners with sustainable livelihoods.
According to the founder, the name NuoMi - meaning 'sticky rice' in Chinese - reflects how "our company works like sticky rice; we support and love each other."
