The Taj Mahal Palace - VIA Bombay
Jan 06, 2013
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
- Lao-tzu, Chinese philosopher
For the past two years, Nic, the VIAJIYU founder, has traveled to Mumbai (Bombay), India every three months for work. She has been to India eight times and is captivated by the creativity and complexity of the place.
The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, next to the Gateway of India, became her home away from home.
It is one of the world’s most stunning hotels and has hosted dignitaries from Obama to Oprah to the Queen of England.
Before VIAJIYU even had a name or its creator ever thought it possible to launch a shoe business, Nic spent nights in the hotel’s gardens dreaming of shoes and looking for signs to have the courage to begin a new journey on a road less travelled.
On a night when she was feeling especially terrified about what to do next, she came across the shoe street in Bombay, where all the local shoemakers peddle their wares in a Muslim neighborhood of Mumbai.
It was a sign that a journey of a thousand miles does begin with a single step. And from then on, she knew she would find her way.
